The UCN5800A/L and UCN5801A/EP/LW latched-input BiMOSICs merge high-current, high-voltage outputs with CMOS logic. TheCMOS input section consists of 4 or 8 data (‘D’ type) latches withassociated common CLEAR, STROBE, and OUTPUT ENABLEcircuitry. The power outputs are bipolar npn Darlingtons. This mergedtechnology provides versatile, flexible interface. These BiMOS powerinterface ICs greatly benefit the simplification of computer or micropro-cessor I/O. The UCN5800A and UCN5800L each contain four latcheddrivers; the UCN5801A, UCN5801EP, and UCN5801LW contain eightlatched drivers.The UCN5800A/L and UCN5801A/EP/LW supersede the originalBiMOS latched-input driver ICs (UCN4400A and UCN4801A). Thesesecond-generation devices are capable of much higher data inputrates and will typically operate at better than 5 MHz with a 5 V logicsupply. Circuit operation at 12 V affords substantial improvement overthe 5 MHz figure.The CMOS inputs are compatible with standard CMOS and NMOScircuits. TTL circuits may mandate the addition of input pull-up resis-tors. The bipolar Darlington outputs are suitable for directly drivingmany peripheral/power loads: relays, lamps, solenoids, small dcmotors, etc.All devices have open-collector outputs and integral diodes forinductive load transient suppression. The output transistors arecapable of sinking 500 mA and will withstand at least 50 V in the OFFstate. Because of limitations on package power dissipation, the simul-taneous operation of all drivers at maximum rated current can only beaccomplished by a reduction in duty cycle. Outputs may be paralleledfor higher load current capability.The UCN5800A is furnished in a standard 14-pin DIP; theUCN5800L and UCN5801LW in surface-mountable SOICs; theUCN5801A in a 22-pin DIP with 0.400" (10.16 mm) row centers; theUCN5801EP in a 28-lead PLCC

Designed primarily for use with high-voltage vacuum-fluorescentdisplays, the UCN5815A and UCN5815EP BiMOS II integratedcircuits consist of eight npn Darlington source drivers with output pull-down resistors, a CMOS latch for each driver, and common STROBE,BLANKING, and ENABLE functions.BiMOS II devices have considerably better data-input rates thanthe original BiMOS circuits. With a 5 V logic supply, they will operateto at least 4.4 MHz. With a 12 V supply, significantly higher speedsare obtained. The CMOS inputs cause minimum loading and arecompatible with standard CMOS and NMOS logic commonly found inmicroprocessor designs. TTL circuits may require the use of appropri-ate pull-up resistors.The bipolar outputs may be used as segment, dot (matrix), bar, ordigit drivers in vacuum-fluorescent displays. All eight outputs can beactivated simultaneously at ambient temperatures in excess of 75°C.To simplify printed wiring board layout, output connections areopposite the inputs. A minimum component display subsystem,requiring few or no discrete components, can be assembled using theUCN5815A/EP with the UCN5810AF/EPF/LWF, UCN5812AF/EPF,or UCN5818AF/EPF serial-to-parallel latched drivers.

Series UDN2580A and A2580SLWsource drivers can drive incandescent, LED, or vacuum fluorescent displays.Internal transient-suppression diodes permit the drivers to be used withinductive loads such as relays, solenoids, dc and stepping motors, and mag-netic print hammers.The Types UDN2580A and A2580SLW are high-current source driversused to switch the ground ends of loads that are directly connected to a -50 Vsupply. Typical loads are telephone relays, PIN diodes, and LEDs.The UDN2585A and A2585SLW are drivers designed for applicationsrequiring low output saturation voltages. Typical loads are low-voltage LEDsand incandescent displays. The eight non-Darlington, 25 V outputs willsimultaneously sustain continuous load currents of -120 mA at ambienttemperatures to +70°C.The UDN2588A and A2588SLW have separate logic and driver supplylines. Their eight drivers can serve as an interface between positive logic(TTL, CMOS, PMOS) or negative logic (NMOS) and either negative or split-load supplies to -80 V.These drivers are packaged in plastic DlPs (suffix A) or surface-mount-able wide-body SOlCs (suffix LW), and are rated for operation over thetemperature range of -20°C to +85°C.

Recommended for high-side switching applications that benefit from separate logic and load grounds, these devices encompass load supply voltages to 80 V and output currents to -500 mA. These 8-channel source drivers are useful for interfacing between low-level logic and high-current loads. Typical loads include relays, solenoids, lamps, stepper and/or servo motors, print hammers, and LEDs. All devices may be used with 5 V logic systems — TTL, Schottky TTL, DTL, and 5 V CMOS. The UDN2981A, UDN2982A, UDN2982LW, and A2982SLW are electrically interchangeable, will withstand a maximum output off voltage of 50 V, and operate to a minimum of 5 V; the UDN2983A, UDN2984A, UDN2984LW, and A2984SLW drivers are electrically interchangeable, will withstand an output voltage of 80 V, and operate to a minimum of 35 V. All devices in this series integrate input current limiting resistors and output transient suppression diodes, and are activated by an active high input. The suffix ‘A’ (all devices) indicates an 18-lead plastic dual in-line package with copper lead frame for optimum power dissipation. Under normal operating conditions, these devices will sustain 120 mA continuously for each of the eight outputs at an ambient temperature of +50°C and a supply of 15 V. The suffix ‘LW’ (UDN2982LW and UDN2984LW only) indicates an 18- lead surface-mountable wide-body SOIC package; the A2982SLW and A2984SLW are provided in a 20-lead wide-body SOIC package with improved thermal characteristics.
