The AD558 DACPORT is a complete voltage-output 8-bit digital-to-analog converter, including output amplifier, full microprocessor interface and precision voltage reference on a single monolithic chip. No external components or trims are required to interface, with full accuracy, an 8-bit data bus to an analog system. The performance and versatility of the DACPORT is a result of several recently-developed monolithic bipolar technologies. The complete microprocessor interface and control logic is imple-mented with integrated injection logic (1.1.), an extremely dense and low power logic structure that is process-compatible with linear bipolar fabrication. The internal precision voltage reference is the patented low voltage bandgap circuit which permits full-accuracy performance on a single +5 V to +15 V power supply. Thin-film silicon-chromium resistors provide the stability re-quired for guaranteed monotonic operation over the entire oper-ating temperature range (all grades), while recent advances in laser-wafer-trimming of these thin-film resistors permit absolute calibration at the factory to within ±1 LSB; thus no user-trims for gain or offset are required. A new circuit design provides voltage settling to ±112 LSB for a full-scale step in 800 ns.

The LM1086 is a regulator with a maximum dropout of 1.5 V at 1.5 A of load current. The device has the same pin-out as TI's industry standard LM317. Two resistors are required to set the output voltage of the adjustable output voltage version of the LM1086. Fixed output voltage versions integrate the adjust resistors. Typically, no input capacitor is needed unless the device is situated more than 6 inches from the input filter capacitors. Output capacitor can be replaced with ceramic and appropriate ESR. The LM1086 circuit includes a zener trimmed bandgap reference, current limiting, and thermal shutdown. Because the LM1086 regulator is floating and detects only the input-to-output differential voltage, supplies of several hundred volts can be regulated as long as the maximum input-to-output differential is not exceeded. Exceeding the maximum input-to-output deferential will result in short-circuiting the output. By connecting a fixed resistor between the adjustment pin and output, the LM1086 can be also used as a precision current regulator. For applications requiring greater output current, refer to LM1084 (clickable link) for the 5-A version, and the LM1085 (clickable link) for the 3-A version.

The LM2595 series of regulators are monolithic integrated circuits that provide all the active functions for a step-down (buck) switching regulator, capable of driving a 1-A load with excellent line and load regulation. These devices are available in fixed output voltages of 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, and an adjustable output version. Requiring a minimum number of external components, these regulators are simple to use and include internal frequency compensation, and a fixed- frequency oscillator. The LM2595 series operates at a switching frequency of 150 kHz, thus allowing smaller-sized filter components than what would be needed with lower- frequency switching regulators. Available in a standard 5-pin TO-220 package with several different lead bend options, and a 5-pin TO-263 surface-mount package. Typically, for output voltages less than 12 V, and ambient temperatures less than 50°C, no heat sink is required.

The MIC29150/29300/29500/29750 are high current, high accuracy, low-dropout voltage regulators. Using Micrel's proprietary Super βeta PNP® process with a PNP pass element, these regulators feature 350mV to 425mV (full load) typical dropout voltages and very low ground current. Designed for high current loads, these devices also find applications in lower current, extremely low dropout-critical systems, where their tiny dropout voltage and ground current values are important attributes. The MIC29150/29300/29500/29750 are fully protected against overcurrent faults, reversed input polarity, reversed lead insertion, overtemperature operation, and positive and negative transient voltage spikes. Five pin fixed voltage versions feature logic level ON/OFF control and an error flag which signals whenever the output falls out of regulation. Flagged states include low input voltage (dropout), output current limit, overtemperature shutdown, and extremely high voltage spikes on the input. On the MIC29xx1 and MIC29xx2, the ENABLE pin may be tied to VIN if it is not required for ON/OFF control. The MIC29150/29300/29500 are available in 3-pin and 5-pin TO-220 and surface mount TO-263 (D2 Pak) packages. The MIC29750 7.5A regulators are available in 3-pin and 5-pin TO-247 packages. The 1.5A, adjustable output MIC29152 is available in a 5-pin power D-Pak (TO-252) package. For applications with input voltage 6V or below, see MIC37xxx LDOs.

Requiring a minimum number of external components, these regulators are simple to use and include fault protection and a fixed-frequency oscillator. The LM2576 series offers a high-efficiency replacement for popular three-terminal linear regulators. It substantially reduces the size of the heat sink, and in some cases no heat sink is required. A standard series of inductors optimized for use with the LM2576 are available from several different manufacturers. This feature greatly simplifies the design of switch-mode power supplies. Other features include a ±4% tolerance on output voltage within specified input voltages and output load conditions, and ±10% on the oscillator frequency. External shutdown is included, featuring 50-μA (typical) standby current. The DP8392C Coaxial Transceiver Interface (CTI) is a coaxial cable line driver/receiver for Ethernet/Thin Ethernet (Cheapernet) type local area networks. The CTI is connected between the coaxial cable and the Data Terminal Equipment (DTE). In Ethernet applications the transceiver is usually mounted within a dedicated enclosure and is connected to the DTE via a transceiver cable. In Cheapernet applications, the CTI is typically located within the DTE and connects to the DTE through isolation transformers only. The CTI consists of a Receiver, Transmitter, Collision Detector, and a Jabber Timer. The Transmitter connects directly to a 50 ohm coaxial cable where it is used to drive the coax when transmitting. During transmission, a jabber timer is initiated to disable the CTI transmitter in the event of a longer than legal length data packet. Collision Detection circuitry monitors the signals on the coax to determine the presence of colliding packets and signals the DTE in the event of a collision. The CTI is part of a three chip set that implements the complete IEEE 802.3 compatible network node electronics as shown below. The other two chips are the DP8391 Serial Network Interface (SNI) and the DP8390 Network Interface Controller (NIC). The SNI provides the Manchester encoding and decoding functions; whereas the NIC handles the Media Access Protocol and the buffer management tasks. Isolation between the CTI and the SNI is an IEEE 802.3 requirement that can be easily satisfied on signal lines using a set of pulse transformers that come in a standard DIP. However, the power isolation for the CTI is done by DC-to-DC conversion through a power transformer.
